Who is SIDS and Kids
Hunter Region?
SIDS and Kids Hunter Region is an association, which provides ongoing bereavement support for those affected by the death of a child from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS or cot death) as well as those whose child has died suddenly and unexpectedly from 20 weeks gestation to 6 years of age – for example: Stillbirths, Neonatal deaths, Accidents, Illnesses and Drowning. The organisation is currently piloting a bereavment group for parents who have experienced the death of an older child (up to the age of 18yrs)
We provide community education services for parents, health professionals, students and others in the community on grief and reducing the risks of SIDS and Safe Sleeping Environments.
SIDS and Kids Hunter region raises money to:
  • Maintain our bereavement support, counselling and health promotion services
  • Help fund research into SIDS and unexplained perinatal deaths,  and
  • Provide financial support for the John Hunter Hospital Children’s Sleep Unit,
